Another year has flown by and it’s time for the next edition of Petrohradské padání. It must be said at the outset that this will most likely be the last one in Žihle, leaving big question marks hanging over the future of the event. But let’s not dwell on that; instead, let’s enjoy a healthy dose of coarse-grained granite, the technical nuances that only Mother Nature can provide, and the atmosphere that only the people who join the “padání” can create.
Petrohradské padání kicks off at noon on Friday, but you can join the action (the competition) anytime—registration stays open until about 12:00 PM on Saturday. As always, participants get a guidebook and set out to bag their eight hardest boulders from a selection of nearly two hundred. Surprisingly, almost half of them are brand new this year, while the rest are “recycled” from a competition held over a decade ago. Everyone climbs—adults, kids, young, old, strong, weak, happy… sad people don’t come to this event. On Friday night, we’ll hang out and jam by the fire; on Saturday, the crowd favorite Sisus Ralsis will perform, and we’ll wrap things up by the fire again. Sunday is for saying goodbye to a weekend lived to the fullest. Sleeping arrangements include cabins, cars, tents, or under the stars. Refreshments, restrooms, hot showers, and a kitchenette are available throughout the event.
ATTENTION, MAJOR CHANGE COMPARED TO PREVIOUS YEARS: the property owners will not tolerate unauthorized entry to this location for non-participants. Therefore, if you do not plan to participate in the “padání”, whether as a competitor or a passive attendee, please do not come here (violations will be handled by the police). Parking for participants will be clearly marked on-site this time (the cabin camp and the asphalt court area behind the apartment buildings).
